Buck Boost Transformer Manufacturer and Design

Custom buck boost transformers, also known as step up or step down transformers are designed to adjust voltage within a limited range, most often to precisely match a voltage supply, like the voltage coming in from the power feed, to the precise voltage required for a product, e.g. commonly boosting from 110V to 120V or 208V to 230V or 240V.  Conversely, the buck, in “buck boost” means to  drop the voltage.  Agile Magnetics manufactures buck boost transformers in single or three phase applications with standard or multi-tap configurations.

A custom buck boost design can make for a cost-effective, small-envelope transformer so it is often used in low cost applications like low power lighting and uninterruptible power supplies for computers.  It is also often used in industrial lighting that runs at higher voltages.

As a buck boost manufacturer, the specifications that Agile requires* to quote a custom buck boost transformer are:

• input voltage
• output voltage of the application,
• application load amperage,
• operating frequency
• single or three phase design
• dimensional restrictions
• other non-performance factors like specific application, projected quantity, end environmental constraints  and required lead time

Buck boost limitations: These units will not work for applications where the voltage constantly changes, only where it is consistently different than what is needed.
