Ferrite cores are used for low eddy current losses at higher operating frequencies. These units are surface mounted to a PC board – the high frequency fly-back design allows the unit to be much smaller and lighter than alternative designs. The High Voltage Fly-Back Transformers usually operate at higher voltages and produces a serrated wave form from a charge-discharge cycle. Additional windings are also often added for additional circuit-board power sources
